Automated Editor is a POWERFUL content editing plugin
…This is both good and bad. It means you can get it to do a lot of great things for you, but without proper care and attention it can also screw things up quite badly. YOU are solely responsible for how you use the plugin and while we will do our best to guide & support you we will not be held responsible for any outcome as the result of using the plugin. Stick to our guidelines and you should get everything you want to out of the plugin!
Common sense advice
Check it, Triple Check it:
Before using any rule or running any schedule check it, check it and check it again. Think through some of the questions below to make sure it will do what you want, if you do not understand it find someone who does and get them to check it.
- What will happen if it runs on the wrong post?
- What will happen if it runs twice, three times, three thousand times?
- Is it sensible to replace or remove that string? is that string included in a word or not very unique (e.g. replacing “ice” would wreck “price, mice, twice, splice etc.”
Test it out:
Run a test blog, stick a schedule to “most recent post” and add a new post to test it. Future versions may likely have a more complete testing section but until then its always a good idea to test!
Read Avoiding string replacement loops in Automated Editor and see the What not to do in Automated Editor series on our blog for more pointers on what NOT to do.
